The Open Project

Academic publishing, reimagined

What is the Open Project?

We have a vision for academic publishing that promotes open access, collaboration, and efficiency while maintaining the quality of rigorous peer review, all in a cost-effective manner. The current publishing model is broken. The institutions paying for access to scholarly journals are unable to keep up with the extreme and constantly rising costs of subscriptions. Open access journals, which have no subscription fees, have spawned to make research freely available.  The open access publishing model does little to subdue the growing costs for the researchers and supporting institutions. The Open Project is committed to lifting the financial burdens while maintaining the quality of traditional peer-reviewed scholarly work and increasing the transparency and efficiency of the process. We believe the power of current technologies is undervalued and underutilized in the scholarly community, and we hope to change that.

It is rare for one person to succeed in answering the most difficult problems on their own. We believe the facilitation of an online open scholarly publishing network will vastly enhance our ability to gain and spread knowledge. With a more transparent and accessible scholarly research system, we can overcome any challenge.
